I've taken down my 2023 essay about AI. I was enthusiastic about the possibilities and gave far too little consideration to the people who had good reasons to be concerned, especially artists. I don't stand by how dismissive it was.

I don't like what generated content has done to a lot of the web. People are having a harder time finding something real, and artists are understandably upset about their work being used without their permission. My old essay barely acknowledged any of that.

Neocities matters to me because of the people making things here. Someone spending a weekend drawing something or learning enough HTML to finally get their page looking right is doing something worth supporting. I want my work on Neocities to keep making room for that.
